I am a licensed professional clinical counselor licensed in California with over seven years of experience working in the field. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, personality disorders, and substance use.

My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, EMDR and TRM, and dialectical behavioral counseling.

It takes courage to reach out and take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you. I look forward to working with you!

What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, is a specialized therapy approach meant to help individuals overcome the distressing symptoms associated with traumatic experiences. It was originally developed by psychologist Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s.

EMDR therapy aims to reprocess these traumatic memories by facilitating bilateral stimulation of the brain while the individual revisits the distressing experiences. This bilateral stimulation can take various forms, such as side-to-side eye movements, auditory tones, or tactile sensations. With the guidance of your therapist, you engage with these memories, using eye movements, soothing sounds, or gentle taps to stimulate both sides of your brain.

During EMDR sessions, the therapist guides the client through a series of stages. There are no set amount of sessions it takes to complete these steps. However, it has been shown to be more effective over a shorter period of time at processing traumatic experiences than other types of therapy.

It's not just about relinquishing the pain; it's also about embracing the healing. With each session, you grow, as you discover the strength within yourself to rewrite the narratives that once held you back. Positive beliefs and feelings begin to take root in the mind.

“We know from experience and the growing body of supportive literature that the therapeutic relationship a counselor forms with each client can be the most powerful tool for helping clients change.”

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on helping individuals notice and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. It's based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. By changing the way we think, we can change how we feel and act.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of psychotherapy that combines cognitive behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices. DBT aims to help individuals regulate emotions, develop interpersonal skills, and tolerate distress more effectively. It emphasizes acceptance and change, teaching skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.

Trauma Resiliency Model

The Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) is a therapeutic approach designed to help individuals recover from traumatic experiences and access their own resiliency. TRM focuses on understanding the effects of trauma on the body and mind, and teaches skills to regulate the nervous system's response to stressors. It aims to empower individuals to regain a sense of safety in their body through techniques such as grounding, mindfulness, and body awareness. TRM aims to help individuals not only cope with trauma related symptoms but also thrive beyond it.
